We understand that making the best arrangements for your children will be your priority when your relationship breaks down. Disputes involving children can arise over the arrangements for where they will live, the time they spend with each parent and financial issues.

Where you can’t agree things with your former partner it is vitally important to take specialist legal advice at an early stage. We can advise you on the options for resolving any disputes in the best interests of the children.

Negotiation and Mediation

Separating couples can find it difficult to agree arrangements for children on their own. We are here to help you. We can assist you with reaching an agreement either by negotiation or through mediation.

Our experienced team of family solicitors recognise the importance of working with you and your family to achieve the best solution for your children. We have the skills, expertise and understanding of the legal issues to advise you.

Court Proceedings

Occasionally a dispute simply cannot be resolved by negotiation or mediation or if there is an urgent concern. In those circumstances we may recommend making an application to the Court.

We can advise you on the Court process and represent you throughout the proceedings. The best interests of your children will be at the heart of our advice and representation.

The main Orders that can be made by the Court are:

  • Child Arrangement Orders to define where the children should live, and the amount of time they should spend with each parent;
  • Prohibited Steps Orders – Orders to prevent something occurring, for example removing a child to live elsewhere in England and Wales or abroad
  • Specific Issues Orders – dealing with a specific issue such as change of name or choice of school

Fixed Fee Meeting

We offer an initial fixed fee meeting with one of our specialist family solicitors. The meeting can take place at either of our offices in Lancaster or Kirkby Lonsdale (or remotely if required). The meeting will last for 1 hour and is followed up with a detailed letter of advice tailored to your specific case. The cost is £240.00 (including VAT) which we believe offers exceptional value for money.
