Tom finished his studies in 2020 completing his postgraduate LPC and MSc at the University of Law, Leeds and after gaining experience at a busy high street practice in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, joined Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand solicitors in 2021.

Specialist areas that Tom covers include:

Wills, estate planning and Lasting Powers of Attorney including the drafting of straightforward and complex Wills including trust structures as well as estate planning with consideration given to inheritance and capital gains tax. Lasting Powers of Attorney for business and personal matters and registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney.

Administration of estates both testate and intestate, calculation of inheritance tax and claims for relief, negotiation with HM Revenue and Customs. Applications for various Grants of Probate including Administration Ad Colligenda Bona, Administration De Bonis Non and Double Probate. Advising on and drafting Deeds of Variation for beneficiaries.

Court of Protection applications for Orders covering both financial and healthcare matters, urgent applications and acting in the administration of Deputy Orders, dealing with all reporting requirements to the Court and the Office of the Public Guardian.

Tom has gained experience in the firm’s Corporate, Civil Litigation and Private Client departments and is now training under Clare Love and hopes to qualify into the Private Client department later this year.
