Mark Hutchinson-Lyons

Mark qualified in 2009 and has over 15 years’ experience as a practising solicitor. He joined Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand solicitors in 2014 and was made a Partner in 2020.

Specialist areas that Mark covers include:

Trusts advice regarding creating and editing trusts, administration, taxation, advising trustees on their powers and roles, advising beneficiaries on their rights as well as the resolution of conflicts.

Estate Planning for a wide range of clients including high net worth clients, the protection of assets, inter-generational wealth transfer, planning and implementation, lifetime gifts (including to Trusts).

Administration of Estates including advice, consequential planning for beneficiaries, advice on taxation elements to executors including income tax, inheritance tax, capital gains tax and the management of these taxes during the administration and thereafter, general administration and resolution of conflicts, Deeds of Variation and Disclaimer.

Powers of Attorney advice and preparation. Applications for orders from Court of Protection for attorneys particularly with regard to estate planning for those who have lost capacity, their families, deputies, and attorneys.

Court of Protection matters for Orders covering both financial and healthcare matters, urgent applications and acting in the administration of Deputy Orders, dealing with all reporting requirements to the Court and the Office of the Public Guardian.

In 2013, Mark was admitted as a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a worldwide professional body which promotes the highest professional standards for its members. Becoming a ‘STEP’ member is an accomplishment that many private client solicitors strive to achieve.
