Liz Byrne

Liz qualified in 2007 and has over 16 years of experience as a practising solicitor. She joined Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand solicitors in 2021 as a Senior Solicitor.

Specialist areas that Liz covers include:

Wills, estate planning and Lasting Powers of Attorney including the drafting of straightforward and complex Wills including trust structures as well as estate planning with consideration given to inheritance and capital gains tax. Lasting Powers of Attorney for business and personal matters and registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney.

Administration of estates both testate and intestate, calculation of inheritance tax and claims for relief, negotiation with HM Revenue and Customs. Advising on and drafting Deeds of Variation for beneficiaries.

Court of Protection applications acting in the administration of Deputy Orders, dealing with all reporting requirements to the Court and the Office of the Public Guardian.

Trust Creation and Administration acting for both settlors and trustees in the creation and administration of trusts including advising on the tax implications of various courses of action. Dealing with registration formalities at HM Revenue and Customs, reporting trust events and dealing with periodic charges to Inheritance Tax.

In 2023, Liz was admitted as a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a worldwide professional body which promotes the highest professional standards for its members. Becoming a ‘STEP’ member is an accomplishment that many private client solicitors strive to achieve.
